"Scotland has some way to go before it gets to grip with the blight of drug addiction.

"With more money being spent on methadone, the public will be asking serious questions about what is being done to curtail Scotland's addiction problems and questioning the effectiveness of the methadone programme.

"Drug use continues to wreak havoc on the lives of users, their families and communities. A twin track approach is vital if we are to rid Scotland of the scourge of drug addiction.

"We must fight for prosecution of drug pushers who prey on the vulnerable in society and see a proper support structure in place so that rehabilitation of drug addicts can offer a path back to a fulfilling role in society. Methadone is a useful part of this but we want to see people progressing towards a drug free life."
