Commenting after questioning the First Minister on a potential single, centralised police force for Scotland, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesman Robert Brown said:
"I am disappointed that the First Minister refused to rule out the undemocratic and undesirable prospect of a single police force for Scotland.
"Having one centralised force in the hands of one Justice Secretary would be incredibly dangerous and would be bad for policing, especially in those areas furthest away from the central base.
"There is a strong risk that political concerns rather than local priorities would dominate in a single police force.
"A move to one central police force would focus too much on saving money rather than delivering better policing."
