Commenting on The Scottish Secondary Teachers ' Association calls for a delay in implementing Curriculum for Excellence, amid concerns over whether secondary schools will be ready, Liberal Democrat Education Spokeswoman, Margaret Smith MSP said:
"Curriculum for Excellence is a once in a generation change to education but this call from the SSTA confirms our fears that many education professionals don't think the new curriculum will be ready by August.
"I called for greater clarity on the timetable in a Liberal Democrat led debate last week.
"The education secretary must make an early decision, taking into account advice from the Curriculum for Excellence management board following their meeting in April.
"The Government needs to listen to these experts, parents and teachers to make sure that Curriculum for Excellence is implemented correctly and with the right resources.
"This is particularly essential given that the new curriculum forms the basis of assessment for the new National Qualifications due to begin in 2013.
"It is better to get the Curriculum right than to roll out something that isn't ready."
