In a Scottish Parliament debate this afternoon, Liberal Democrat Education spokesman Margaret Smith MSP called on the Government to stop interfering in children's education and make clear their vague instructions to teachers as part of the Curriculum for Excellence.
Margaret Smith said:
"The SNP need to keep their nationalist agenda out of the classroom. Politics should stay out of education as much as possible. It is right that Scottish children learn about their history, but our history is more than just William Wallace and Bannockburn. Young people need to learn about other international cultures as well as the part Scots have played in shaping the modern world.
"Ministers should be spending their efforts fixing the half baked Curriculum for Excellence. Teachers are being expected to take responsibility for its success or failure despite being unclear as to what it means in practice."
