Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, has called for a vote in the Scottish Parliament on the release of the Lockerbie bomber.
The MSP questioned Kenny MacAskill during Monday's (24th August) emergency Parliamentary session.
Jim Hume said:
"The minority SNP Government does not speak exclusively for the people of Scotland, but the Justice Secretary did not seek nor invite the opinion of Parliament before deciding to release Mr Megrahi. It is vital that the voice of the Scottish Parliament is now heard.
"Liberal Democrats want an urgent vote of the Scottish Parliament so that the majority can voice its view on the handling of this highly contentious issue.
"It is staggering that the welcome he received back home in Tripoli and the international fall-out that has ensued was not anticipated by the Justice Secretary and the SNP Government."
