Famous by-election winner Willie Rennie MP, who won his seat from Labour on a 16% swing, today joined the Liberal Democrat campaign in Edinburgh North & Leith, helping Kevin Lang and the team to knock on over 1,000 doors in one evening.
Willie Rennie won Dunfermline & West Fife from Labour in a famous by-election victory in 2006. He is also a Shadow Defence Minister in the House of Commons and the Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary campaigns team.
Willie joined local Liberal Democrat candidate Kevin Lang, Inverleith councillor Tim McKay and others to survey residents on local issues throughout Comely Bank, knocking on over 1,000 doors in one evening. Key issues raised included jobs, crime, parking and transport.
Kevin Lang said, "It was great to welcome Willie to Edinburgh North & Leith. He is someone who really knows what it takes to take on Labour and win.
"No other party has worked as hard as the Liberal Democrats to actually go out and listen to the views of the people of Edinburgh North & Leith. At a time when events have caused real damage to the standing of politics, I believe it is vital to connect with local people, to listen to their priorities and to their concerns.
"We have now knocked on over 15,000 doors right across the constituency and plan to knock on thousands more in the coming weeks as we step up our campaign to win Edinburgh North & Leith at the next General Election."
During his visit, Willie Rennie said, "There was a great reception on the doorsteps as went round Comely Bank this evening. People are clearly impressed with the hard work of the local Liberal Democrat team and recognise Kevin as the clear challenger to Labour at the next General Election.
"With such an energetic campaign team behind him, I am looking forward to welcoming Kevin to the House of Commons after the next election."
