Purvis welcomes Community Health Nurse announcement

In response to the announcement that the Government has abandoned its Community Health Nurse pilot programme, Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale MSP, Jeremy Purvis lauded the efforts of community nurses in contributing to this decision.

Commenting, Jeremy Purvis said:

"The Community Health Nurse pilot programme sought to merge the posts of District Nurse, Health Visitor, Public Health Nurse, Family Health Nurse and School Nurse into one role of 'Community Health Nurse.' This would have resulted in the loss of specified care for patients as well as jobs.

"I am very happy to hear that this concerning proposal has been scrapped and that the Borders community will continue to receive the specialised care it deserves. I would also like to commend the community nurses who were the driving force in opposing this pilot programme and encourage the Government to consult with staff before making such sweeping changes to health programmes."
