Commenting as Edinburgh City Council calls on the Scottish Government to close the legal loophole on class sizes, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson and MSP for Edinburgh West Margaret Smith said:
"We know that Ministers didn't give councils any new money to reduce class sizes. But Edinburgh City Council is the latest local authority to show that the SNP also failed to provide the necessary legal protection.
"I raised this issue with the Education Secretary in Parliament last year. But nine months on, she is still burying her head in the sand.
"This legal challenge isn't going to go away and the SNP is letting down parents and pupils. The Education Secretary needs to close this loophole now."
