Liberal Democrat MSP for Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale Jeremy Purvis MSP has revealed the Scottish public are more interested in the SNP's catalogue of broken promises than their independence agenda.
Answers to Parliamentary Questions lodged by Mr Purvis show that more people wrote to the Scottish Government about the SNP's broken promises on class sizes and teacher numbers than the national conversation. More people wrote to the First Minister about the plight of Palestine than about independence for Scotland.
Commenting, Mr Purvis said:
"More Scots felt moved to write to the First Minister about the plight of Palestine than independence for Scotland. Alex Salmond received double the number of letters about our crisis-hit banks than about independence.
"More people put pen to paper to complain about the SNP's broken education promises than wrote to the First Minister about independence.
"The SNP need to wake up to reality. People don't want a Scottish Government obsessed by independence; they are more worried about the economy and the SNP's dismal record on education.
"This is a clear message to the First Minister that he should stop wasting time and public money on a monologue masquerading as a conversation."
